The problem is that you need a SYSTEM. You need a step-by-step system that you can use again, and again, and again.
Instead, you get little pieces here and there. You get someone explaining how to register on eBay (as though you can't read that for yourself!). Or another so-called 'auction expert' is telling you to go to garage sales (a great way to learn, but it surely is NOT a business model!).

On December 3, 2004, I walked into a hotel in Orlando, Florida and was immediately approached by a tall, husky man with an outstretched hand. He said, "My name is Todd Taylor and I flew here from Pennsylvania just to meet you. Can I take you to dinner?"

It's Saturday afternoon and you're sitting at your desk with a catalog of 5,000 wholesale products. GREAT ... but HOW do you know if any of them will be profitable on eBay? And if so, which ones?
That's where market research comes in. 
Recently, I received an articulate and sincere email from a very frustrated would-be eBay success story:
Subject line: Finding products to sell is the easiest part??? Uuggghh!!
... I've bought and sold ~40 items on Ebay. That's the extent of my internet marketing. ... I've researched and researched 'til my brain is fried. Overture and Wordtracker are good demand and supply tools but you've got to have some idea of your product first before you can input related search terms.
... I was reading your auction genius course sales letter and read your statement about people not believing you when you say finding products is the easiest part. And I thought......ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? CAN YOU HEAR THE FRUSTRATION IN MY VOICE? Sorry, I'm just really at a loss for how to go about this process. Everyone is looking the holy grail of ecommerce. High demand and low supply. And I don't want someone to tell me what to sell. I just wish someone would provide some guidance as to how to go about this.
... is there some method to this madness of finding a niche? Thank you for your time and sincere thanks in advance for any advice given.
...p.s. I'm really starting to understand why most people get to this point in their ecommerce career and then quit. They get paralysis analysis on the product.

He's 100% right when he says you can't effectively do keyword research until you know what your product is. If you're going to sell fine crystal glasses, you need to know the best keywords for fine crystal glasses if you're going to send traffic to your auctions and/or website. But isn't he doing exactly what he says NOT to do?
He's researching keywords for products he doesn't have!
Example: let's suppose he does his keyword research and finds the perfect niche: huge amount of demand and very few competitors. And all of his competitors are relatively inept. Now what? If he can't find the product all his efforts are useless. There is no bigger waste of time than spending hours, days and weeks chasing an elusive product. I've been selling on eBay for over 11 years and I absolutely can NOT find a source for every product I've ever thought about. How can a total novice hope to succeed?
The point is that he's going about this backwards! Here's his method:
Do keyword research ---> Find
winning search terms --->
Look for product that fits keyword research
Question:
If he doesn't understand the wholesale market
HOW is he going to find very specific products to sell ?
Answer:
The odds of him finding this specific product are slim - and none!
Here's a much more efficient way:
Locate tens of thousands of wholesale products ---> do keyword
research based on the thousands of products already available to you

I must say I thought long and hard about spending what was for me quite a sum on the AG course, there is just SO much BS offered on the Net! I was convinced to enroll by the following facts.

A mammoth corporation like ebay wouldn't do such a thing lightly and the slot certainly couldn't be bought for any amount of money.
The course has been running for some time now, so would have been honed and tweaked to perfection - I thought there would be little room for guesswork (which subsequently proved to be the case!)
I dithered about whether to go for the CDs alone, or the live sessions as well. In the end I figured that if this was worth doing, the extra value of direct interaction (and ongoing personal contact) was not only worthwhile, but the Saturday lessons also forced a certain amount of pace into proceedings (as did the regular 'homework'). I am surrounded by CDs, DVDs and videos on all sorts of Internet Marketing stuff - and never got further than 50% of the way through any of them! The price tag and the 8 course sessions made very sure that wasn't likely to be the case with the AGC.
There was a guarantee and I felt sure that would give me time to get a sense of whether there was real substance in the course. I need not have worried about that, there was remarkably little 'fluff' and by the end of the first session I could tell that Sydney was not only a master ebayer, but could put the concepts across very well. I guess that comes from her school teacher background.
So, I went for it and it proved to be much more than described! The full picture extends way beyond ebay, for those who want to look towards very significant incomes, though there's plenty of meat in there for those with more modest ambitions, or for whom available time is limited. Sydney really laid it all out for us in a very frank and detailed way - no 'secrets' withheld. That surprised (and delighted) me. Now it's up to me, I have been shown the methodology and given the essential tools. Work has already started and I am glad I have access to Sydney and the Forum on an ongoing basis, that would not have been the case if I had settled for a bunch of CDs.
If you are serious about a serious income from ebay, this course has just got to be a priority. What you get as bonuses goes way beyond ebay, but founded on understanding and using the ebay fundamentals.

I came across Sydney's Auction Genius Course about this time last year and bought the CD version of the course. As soon as it arrived I popped it in the computer and then it happened ... Sydney started all the straight talk about hard work. So guess what I did? The same thing a lot of others do - I snatched that CD out of the drive and went to find the "easy" way. |
And as you can imagine I had no trouble finding online marketers who would tell/sell me the secret to the easy path, sometimes it wouldn't even cost me any money up front, I could give them my email address so they could bombard me with their marketing message over and over. What a deal! :-)

We just celebrated my wife’s one year anniversary of quitting her J-O-B as a computer programmer, and we have been attracting a lot of attention from family, friends, and neighbors. They see us at home all day, coming and going as we please, vacationing on the weekdays, and it naturally leads to questions.
Two years ago, I was running a successful construction company; but it was wearing me out, and I never got to see my family. We lived the normal working class American life: work, eat, sleep, do it again. But now we work when we want and play when we want. It’s a cliche, but it’s true for us.
Several people have asked me how I do it. Now, I realize that most people would love to live our life, and trying to explain it to everybody would take up a huge chunk of my time, so I just point them all to your course.
I tell them, “Ok, go to auction-genius-course.com, buy the course, listen to what Sydney tells you, and do it.” Then they say, “Well ok, maybe I’ll check into it, but I don’t know if I have that in my budget right now.” So I tell them, “Hey, I earned the cost of the course back in a month. That’s it! Unbelievable! I even had one guy offer to hire me as his coach, and I refused. I told him, “Listen, Sydney is the ‘Queen Genius.’ I’m not going to say anything that can beat what she has to offer. She’s been an educator for a long time, taught this course many times, and really knows what she’s doing. She’s put a lot of time into developing this course. You’d have to pay me 10 times the amount she’s charging just to come up with a course that covers the basics of what she does.”
He was hoping for 2 or 3 hours of coaching for $100 or something. I’m not sure what his plan was. He’s a smart, nice guy; but he’s still working his uneventful, flat salary job.
But not everyone is mentally stuck. Some people have a vision for a better life, are willing to judge the merits of success accurately and invest to make their life better.
