Asthma & Selling On eBay
In the last year, I've had two outbreaks of bronchitis and a friend recently suggested that I might be developing asthma. Since I've never had any breathing difficulties, I went searching for information and found some causes of asthma that definitely applied to me ... like my two adorable & fiendish cats. I can see their hair floating in beams of sunlight as they wreak havoc in my house, so perhaps I do have the beginnings of asthma. Depressingly, it's possible to develop it in later in life, even if you're been free for decades.
Naturally, I decided to see if there is an active eBay trade in asthma items and discovered that it's a very small niche - only 214 items come up for the keyword 'asthma'. The range of products is interesting, though:
1. Portable nebulizer
2. ID bracelet, warning of an asthmatic condition - just in case
3. Asthma books
4. A peak flow meter
And a really interesting product, to me - a breathing resistance trainer. I've seen those before and found them interesting because it seems as though they might be good for anyone, asthmatic or not. The idea is that you breathe into it, and it offers resistance: "... is weight training for your respiratory muscles. It will increase your lung capacity by as much as 25%. And you can see results in as little as two weeks. It is easy to use and there are no harmful drugs going into your system." The price is only $29 and I've seen them in other places for much more.
So, could this be a profitable eBay niche? I can't know without further research, but selling on eBay doesn't have to be in giant areas. Sometimes dominating a very small niche like this one can be profitable. One thing is for sure ... there are many, many asthma sufferers on this planet so we know that demand is quite strong.
