Google Base & Google Payment
It's hard to keep up with Google's services. It seem that just as soon as I sort-of figure one out, another appears. One of the newest, Google Base, is in beta. For auction sellers, it might influence eBay and PayPal and here's why ...

Google base is "a place where you can post all types of content and have it show up on Google."
Some of the categories fascinate me.' Coupons' and 'Housing' are pretty standard stuff, but 'Protein databases'?
Google is allowing sellers to accept payment through Google.

* Currently, you can accept payments through Google if you're posting physical goods for sale. You may not accept payments through Google for services or digital goods.
* You may only accept payments through Google for individual items you post, and not bulk uploaded items.
* Any items you post must abide by our content policies.
* You must be a U.S. seller to accept payments through Google.

Currently, only small numbers can use this Google-payment feature but that will certainly change. Goggle constantly tests out programs and then expands them. If more and more sellers use Google payment, it's almost certain to put pressure on eBay and PayPal. This will most likely be good for us because PayPal fees may have to drop to compete with Google.
Don't 'cha just love a battle of the Titans that benefits us? :-)
