How To Sell On eBay :: eBay.com Basic Search
eBay.com Basic Search: A Basic
Search Is Simple on eBay.com
An eBay.com basic search is a simple process on the giant auction site, eBay.com, and is a must-have skill for both buyers and sellers. With millions and millions of items, it's almost impossible to find anything you're seeking if you don't know how to search. It isn't hard, but eBay hasn't made it as obvious as it is with a search engine like Google or Yahoo.
First go to the front page of eBay.com and in the top right hand corner you will see a navigation bar exactly like the one below. Click on the live link that says "Search".
Once onto the search panel, you will be provided with an incredible array of choices. You can:
* Search by keywords, which is how the vast majority of items are located on eBay. This is a very important lesson for seller - use the wrong keywords and the chances of your auction's success are much lower. As we teach students in our Auction Genius Course, title is one of the most important considerations when writing a listing.

If you can' find what you're looking for, eBay.com suggests:
- Try different search words
- Use specific words instead of general ones
- For a closer match, specify a date, color, or brand
- Search titles and descriptions to get more matches
- Be careful when using 'and', 'or' and 'the'
- Don't use extra punctuation
* Search by the item's listing number, is you know it.
* You can search by the ID of the seller or the ID of the buyer.
These are the basic search commands, but you can further refine your search in the following ways:
* You can search in all categories or limit it to only one. For example, if you're searching for "wristwatches", you might want to limit your search to the Jewelry category only.
* You can search the "Title & Description", meaning currently ongoing auctions, or you can search "Completed" auctions. This is available to registered eBay users only, so you will be asked for your username and password.
Further, you can decide how you wish for your search results to be displayed.
* Sort five ways: time ending soonest, most recently listed, lowest price first, highest price first or those nearest you geographically first.
* You can sort the listings by title, by pictures or by item numbers.
* Lastly, you can display by 50-200 per page.
There are other ways to search on eBay. For example, you can search eBay sellers, which might be a useful skill, especially when you are first learning How To Sell On eBay and want to see the efforts of more experienced sellers.
An eBay.com basic search is quite simple and is an indispensable tool for us sellers. Without being able to do this, we will never be able to navigate the giant site.
